The downside to ClamAV is that it doesn't scan for viruses in realtime it's scan on demand or scan on schedule only. Which depending on your point of view may or may not be better on a server. I run clamav yes you have to schedule it and no it's not real time, but I've still found it to be a good solution despite it's down sides.
